If you would like to find out more about beekeeping, why not come along to our open sessions? This will give you excellent knowledge of bees and hands-on experience of how to keep them. Once you have gained confidence, you can borrow a suit and have a go yourself.
To get a feel what it takes to handle bees, you can observe the hive being opened and checked from the safety of our hide. If you like what you see, you can borrow a suit and shadow our bee-keepers. If you would like to know more, sign up to become a regular member of our beekeeping team. This means you will be on the priority list for a share in the honey!
Our regular Monday morning bee keeping sessions take place between 11am-1pm.
To book your place at an open session, please contact Ian on 07599 951060 or email ian@activlives.org.uk.
How to get here
You can catch all buses from The Old Cattle Market, near The Buttermarket shopping mall. Click here to get to the bus timetable.
The garden has its own pedestrian gate – from Halifax Road, walk down the roadway (not accessible to vehicles from either end), keeping the allotment site on your left and Bourne Vale Social Club on your right – the gate is a short walk along the pavement on the left hand side. From Wherstead Road, look out for Orwell’s furniture shop and turn into the roadway opposite, which leads under the railway bridge (if you are in a car, park between the trees – if you go under the bridge you may get stuck or have a long way to reverse), walk up the roadway, pass the main allotment gates, and our pedestrian gate will be on your right.
Plan your journey using Suffolk Onboard.
