Create your very own online game using the software Twine. This workshop is part of The Blank Page Project.
Workshops take place from 9.45AM to 3.30PM and include a free lunch, drinks and snacks!
Write and code your own story game in one day! This workshop is designed to give young people access to writing script, analysing stories and writing code.
The main goal will be to have participants create their very own interactive story which will be published on a public website for all to play. We will use flowcharts and brainstorming techniques to think about our ideas, and then we will use a mixture of creative writing and simple coding to create our game. In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create their own solo project or work together in a team.
Interactive fiction, also known as visual novels, are stories that can be read on a computer which are often supported with pictures and music. Most interactive fiction contain choices, which the reader can interact with resulting in the story to change. Interactive fiction is a fantastic opportunity for participants to consider different consequences to choices, as well as a myriad of skills in programming, art and creative writing.
The skills participants will learn can be easily replicated at home at no cost. Participants will receive materials to further their learning if they wish to.
The wellbeing of our young people is really important to us and time outdoors is a key part of that. With this in mind, where possible a short walk or time outdoors will be incorporated into the workshop days. This will be supervised by the staff running the workshops and will also be weather dependent. Please ensure your child has a coat and sensible footwear!
