What to expect
2025 will mark the 50th anniversary of the launch of Radio Orwell 257, the local radio station that played an integral role in the lives of Ipswich residents from 1975 – 1992. This Autumn, Cohere Arts is delighted to be working in partnership with Suffolk Archives on a new community project.
When you’re alone we’re together; remembering Radio Orwell.
Taking its name from the 1970s advertising jingle for the station, this project, made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, will invite Ipswich residents to share their recollections, stories and memorabilia relating to Radio Orwell in three community events to be held at Ipswich venues in October 2024. Stories captured will be transcribed by Suffolk Archives and preserved for years to come as part of their archive collections.
Come along to one of our 3 community story-collecting events:
Thursday 10th October 13:00 – 16:00 at The Hold, Fore St, Ipswich
Thursday 17th October 13:00 – 16:00 at Eastern Angles, Gatacre Road, Ipswich
Thursday 24th October 13:00 – 16:00 at NW2, New Wolsey Theatre, Civic Drive, Ipswich
If you have any photos, documents or memorabilia from the era, and are happy to bring them along (with consent) we will scan them for the archive.
How to book
The events are free, you don’t need to book, and we’ll even throw in a free tea or coffee.
All venues are VI accessible, guide dogs and companions are welcome, and the sessions will be supported by fully trained volunteers.
